HuffPost’s Howard Fineman appeared Thursday on MSNBC ’s ‘Hardball with Chris Matthews’ to discuss Mitt Romney’s announcement that he is running for president . Fineman explained that as Romney was making his announcement, most of the media was more concerned with Sarah Palin’s bus tour. “Most of the press corps was spending the time behind the risers trying to figure out where Sarah Palin was going, and what she was saying,” said Fineman. “These announcements now are empty pageants, okay,” explained Fineman.

If only heard and commented upon by their own audiences, like Fox and their radiostations and Facebook page, they would not amount to very much. In fact, their utterances are designed mostly to get a hearing by the progressive media. Ed Schultz does “psychotalk”. Keith Olbermann has “worst people in the world”.

White House chief of staff-designate Rahm Emanuel took some time off from the transition Friday night to hurl barbs at his longtime pseudo-nemesis Stephen Colbert (as well as Joe Biden, Sarah Palin, Joe Lieberman, et al…) Colbert was roasted as part of a charity event for the Spina Bifida Association, organized every year by Judy Woodruff and Al Hunt.
