“I’m a maverick.” – John McCain to Larry King, CNN, October 30th, 2008 “I never considered myself a maverick.” – John McCain to Newsweek, April 3rd, 2010 What I most savor about John McCain’s recent statement, ” I never considered myself a maverick ,” is that it one of those passing utterances that show a pure and unspoiled contempt for the listener.
Judge H. Lee Sarokin: Is Sarah Palin Sen. Joe McCarthy Redux?

Coming soon to a hearing room near you: “Are you now or have you ever been a Socialist or member of the Socialist Party?” Sound familiar? “Socialist” has merely been substituted for “Communist”, but all of the same techniques are in play. I may be overstating her importance, but Sarah Palin frightens me. With her cutesy little homilies that spew venom and lies like “death panels” for the elderly, she appears to be acquiring a substantial following.
Kim Morgan: Clint, Mon Amour

Robert Mitchum, Lee Marvin, Steve McQueen — fantastic faces, wonderful actors and the absolute kings of cool. They’re gone. They’re almost all gone. Leaving an empty hole and extra large snakeskin boots to fill for any other hepcat actors (which are few and far between. With few exceptions, are actors even cool anymore?), these kinds of guys (men, damn it ) not only rarely walk among us any longer but barely even flicker on the screen anymore. So, I have to ask, is Clint Eastwood the last man standing?
