Nancy Chuda: It’s Hair Raising: We Want to Stop the Spill
Posted June 11th, 2010 by impalin
As citizens, we are cut out when it comes to our voices and opinions concerning the BP oil spill disaster — which is the worst oil spill in the history of the world! We are cut off from the people who are vying to find solutions, our President, the EPA, BP executives and now the Coast Guard. The oil and the subsequent slaughter of vasts quantities of marine life (altering their DNA and ours) is gushing out of control. The impact that this spill is having on the fisherman and their families in Louisiana is severe.

“First the Obama Administration opened up the possibility of prosecuting CIA interrogators doing their jobs seeking information from terrorists. Then they tried to go after the Bush Administration lawyers who acted in good faith to protect us in the months after 9/11. Now some of the military brass are court-martialing three brave Navy SEALs for allegedly throwing a single punch at Iraqi terrorist leader Ahmed Hashim Abed.
Micah Sifry: Swiftboating the Stimulus: Did the Internet Really Kill "Rovian" Politics?
Posted February 19th, 2010 by impalin
A year and a half ago, a few weeks before the presidential election, Google CEO Eric Schmidt made a bold claim about the impact of the internet on our public life: “We are witnessing the end of Rovian politics,” he declared to Arianna Huffington .
Sarah O’Leary: Client Death by E-mail

Interpersonal experts believe that basic communication is over 80% non-verbal. We watch facial cues and body language to see how our audience is reacting to our message. After non-verbal cues, we listen. Vocal inflections deliver emotional values as well as information. What we see and hear helps us to determine our actions and reactions within the conversation. In marketing, just as it is in most of the business world, lighting fast key strokes and a quick press of SEND can seem the model of client/agency efficiency.
Geoffrey Dunn: Sarah Palin, John Wooden, Art Linkletter & John Wooden Legs

I don’t believe in quitting. — John Wooden Last night, I attended a high school basketball game with a group of elementary school boys– a great game in which the Santa Cruz High Cardinals won it with only a few seconds on the clock. It’s still the best ticket in town. At the game, several people joked about a story I had uncovered a few weeks ago on the Huffington Post in which I noted that Sarah Palin had attributed a quote in Going Rogue to UCLA basketball legend John Wooden–one that had actually been made by Native American activist John Wooden Legs .
Tiger Woods Withdraws From His Own Golf Tournament

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Tiger Woods has withdrawn from his own golf tournament after citing injuries from a car crash near his Florida home. Woods said in a statement on his Web site Monday that injuries won’t allow him to play in the Chevron World Challenge. He said he would return to competition next year. “I am extremely disappointed that I will not be at my tournament this week,” Woods said.
Shelly Palmer: The Case of Richard Henne, or ‘How Do We Know If News is Real?’: MediaBytes with Shelly Palmer October 21, 2009

On Monday I reported that authorities alleged that Richard Henne, the man who said his kid was in the balloon, had called a tv station before he called 911. I asked why the tv station didn’t confirm the situation before covering the story. It turns out that the news director of KUSA in Denver, not only confirmed the story, but spoke directly to the sheriff about it before sending a crew. Two interesting things here: 1) we got it wrong and went wide with our coverage and 2) we got our information from a trusted source. Which should bring a bigger digital life story into focus.
